Most microbiotic labels quote a single figure, and it is usually the count at the point of manufacture — the highest number the product will ever have. Live bacteria decline over time.
Udo's Choice declares both: 102 billion at manufacture and 61 billion guaranteed at expiry. The second number is the one that matters, because it is what is still there on the last day of the product's life. When comparing any two microbiotics, check which figure the label is quoting. If it does not say, assume it is the manufacture count.

Very few microbiotics publish a per-strain breakdown at all. A blend listing eight strains with no individual counts could be seven token strains and one that makes up the bulk — and you would have no way of knowing.
The two Super 8 products contain broadly the same eight species in almost opposite proportions.

As a point of microbiology rather than a claim about this product: Bifidobacterium species are typically the more abundant genus in the large intestine, while Lactobacillus species are more associated with the small intestine. The two formulations reflect that difference in emphasis.
Seven of the eight strains here are human-adapted — originally isolated from the human digestive tract rather than from dairy, plants or soil. The eighth, Lactobacillus plantarum, is plant-derived and included deliberately.
Strain origin is rarely disclosed on a microbiotic label, and it is a meaningful difference between products that otherwise list similar species names.
Many microbiotics include fructooligosaccharides (FOS) as a prebiotic. FOS is a fermentable carbohydrate, and it is one of the compounds restricted on a low-FODMAP diet.
Nothing in this product contains added FOS. If you follow a low-FODMAP diet or have found other microbiotics uncomfortable, this is the specification worth checking — and most labels do not state it either way.
Live bacteria are sensitive to heat, light and moisture. This product is refrigerated through storage and distribution and packed in dark amber glass rather than plastic.
It also carries an over-fill ratio — more cells than the label guarantees — which allows it to sit unrefrigerated for up to four weeks at room temperature without falling below the declared count. That is what makes it practical to travel with, and it is the reason the guaranteed-at-expiry figure can be honoured after a fortnight in a suitcase.

Why is it more expensive than the other microbiotics?
It carries the highest cell count in the range by some margin — 102 billion at manufacture against 42 billion for Super 8 Immune and 17 billion for Adult's Blend.
Is a higher count automatically better?
No. Count and composition are different things. Gold is 80% Bifidobacterium; if the Lactobacillus-dominant profile is what you are after, Super 8 Immune has 91% Lactobacillus at a lower price.
Does it need refrigerating?
Yes, for maximum potency. It tolerates up to four weeks at room temperature thanks to the over-fill ratio.
Why no enteric coating?
The strains are selected for tolerance to stomach acid and bile, so no coating is used.
Can I take it with the digestive enzymes?
They are entirely separate products — one contains bacteria, the other contains enzymes and no bacteria at all. Nothing overlaps.
How long does a bottle last?
